17 DECEMBER 2020: "NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF ALL INVENTION"
COVID RELATED REMOTE TEACHING/LEARNING HAS BROUGHT IT'S OWN CHALLENGES, PARTICULARLY TO RUN FOSSIL LABS THAT STAND UPON MORPHOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS, DESCRIPTIONS AND TAXONOMY.
MY TA'S AND I HAVE STARTED BUILDING AN ONLINE DATABASE OF 3D SCANS OF THE FOSSILS TO ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO HAVE A TACTILE PERSPECTIVE OF DEALING WITH HAND SPECIMENS. ALL THEY NEED IS A CELLPHONE AND A FREE VERSION OF AN APPLICATION TO VIEW IT.
HERE'S A SMALL CLIP OF WHAT'S COOKING 'BEHIND THE SCENES' AND A PREVIEW OF THE PRELIMINARY OUTPUT:
Hexaplex spp. GASTROPOD
Perisphinctes spp. CEPHALOPOD
